LONE JACK, MO. — A 1923 Birger Sandzén painting titled “Pines by the Lake, Estes Park” soared past its $35/$50,000 estimate to attain $76,700, including buyer’s premium, at Soulis Auctions’ 20th annual Winter Art Auction on February 22. The Rocky Mountain landscape set among wind-worn pines beside a sub-alpine lake in Estes Park was signed twice by the artist. “The present painting, a handsome Colorado view from 1923, fits very neatly within this golden era of the artist’s body of work,” stated the auction catalog description.
