DETROIT — On day two of DuMouchelles’ October 15-17 auction, Marshall Fredericks’ bronze “Leaping Gazelle” sculpture on a marble pedestal, which graced Belle Isle in Detroit since 1936, made a leap of its own. The lifetime cast from the sculptor’s collection was the overall top lot of the auction, when buyers in the saleroom, online and on the phone pushed it to $545,600, including buyer’s premium, nearly five times its high estimate and setting a world auction record price for “Gazelle.” A Michigan bidder won it online.
