MOUNT CRAWFORD, VA. — The collection of Benny Long headlined Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates Fall 2025 Premier auctions, bookended by about 450 lots of glass, ceramics and lighting on November 20, and more than 525 lots of Americana on November 22. The Long collection — comprising a 165-lot single-owner catalog and selling alongside property from other consignors on November 21 — earned the strongest prices of the week, including the highest of all: $106,250, including premium, which was realized by two lots. The first to hit that mark was the Long collection’s cover lot: a Stirewalt family paint-decorated yellow pine child’s or diminutive blanket chest from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia that was included in Marshall Goodman and J. Roderick Moore’s “Painted Boxes and Miniature Chests from Shenandoah County, Virginia: The Stirewalt Group,” published in the September 2007 issue of The Magazine Antiques. According to Will Kimbrough, the firm’s vice president and department head of Americana and fine art, it was purchased by a collector in the Shenandoah Valley. An upcoming issue will feature more highlights from the Long Collection, and others.
