AMESBURY, MASS. — On November 29, John McInnis Auctioneers offered more than 400 lots of art by Robert Eshoo and his circle. The next day, McInnis presented nearly 200 lots of international works of art from various estates. It was a piece from that November 30 sale that topped the weekend’s selections: a calligraphic oil/acrylic on canvas by Iranian artist Faramarz Pilaram (1937-1982). Measuring 19½ by 62½ inches, not including its frame, the expressionist illustration had previously hung in exhibitions in Tehran, Los Angeles, Monaco, Tel Aviv and Montreal, among others. In good, untouched estate condition, the painting’s winning bid was placed online, and it sold for $105,400, including buyer’s premium, a significant improvement to its $10/20,000 estimate. Additional results from both days of auction action will be covered in an upcoming issue.
