Tiffany Studios, Lotus Hanging Shade- Price Upon Request
Tiffany Studios Lotus Hanging Shade Diameter: 26 inches American, circa 1906 This Tiffany Studios ‘Lotus’ Shade, also known as the ‘Mandarin’ Shade, was purchased directly from the Chicago showroom of Edward Wormley, the renowned Mid-Century Modern designer who was among the first to incorporate designs by Louis Comfort Tiffany and Tiffany Studios into a modern interior. Wormley, who frequented Lillian Nassau’s shop on Third Avenue in the 1950’s and 1960’s, incorporated Tiffany Studios favrile glass tiles into his designs on a number of occasions and often showcased Tiffany flower forms and other favrile glass vases on his elegant tables. This particular shade hung in Wormley’s showroom over a pair of club chairs and a simple wooden coffee table. The arrangement can be seen in a period photo on page 216 of the first edition of “Louis C. Tiffany: Rebel in Glass” by author Robert Koch, published in 1964. Wormley designed both the hanging hardware and glass light diffuser which have remained with the shade since it was purchased from his showroom in the 1960’s.??
