ANN BORTON Burlington County, NJ dated 1820 Ann worked this unique beautifully designed graphic sampler using carnations, colum-bines, and roses to enhance her meandering vine borders. The symmetry of the couples, birds, and butterflies grounded by a house and a centered cartouche topped with a lone squirrel is very appealing. The sampler is inscribed with a beautiful verse intended to nur-ture a deeper sensitivity and reverence for nature, life, and death. Ann, born Feb. 20, 1810, was the daughter of Josiah and Margaret Sharp Borton of Eve-sham, Burlington County, NJ Silk on linen; 20" x 21 1/2" sight.
