Shoemaker’s Trade Sign- Price Upon Request
FRANK & BARBARA POLLACK, Highland Park, Ill., and Sunapee, N.H. barbarapollack@comcast.net 847.433.2213 A dynamic painted and decorated boot and shoemaker’s trade sign in pine, signed “Manderbach,” Salem, Mass., and dating circa 1880. This boldly and imaginative painted sign, in dry original untouched condition, depicts the nature of Mr F.J. Arnold’s business and the goods he offered for sale. The 1880s US census lists Francis J. Arnold (b 1861) as “working in a shoe shop in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts.” The sign measures 54½ inches wide, 19 inches high and 2 inches deep, and was purchased from a private collector in Maine.
