Philadelphia Federal Giltwood Convex Mirror- $9000
A 'bulls eye' mirror, surmounted by a hand-carved American eagle, with pierced-carved foliate pediment and pendant. The oak foliate pediment and pendant are Philadelphian Chippendale design elements in mirrors; appearing as early as the third quarter of the 18th century. The giltwood appears to all be original, with outstanding surface. Narrative provenance includes deaccession of this mirror from the collection at "Drumthwacket" in the 1980s; during a 'redecoration' project led by the then-Governor's wife.
