Ida Jones (1874–1959), “Mock Orange (Philadelphus),” oil on canvas board, circa July 1952, measuring 20 inches wide by 16 inches high. Ida Jones, the daughter of a former slave, had ten children and at the age of 72 began painting. Self-taught, her work focuses on local (Chester County, Pennsylvania) landscapes, still lifes and biblical stories.
