Hand-Painted Ceramic Jug with Patriotic Motifs- Price Upon Request
Hand-painted ceramic jug with patriotic motifs, America, circa 1890. The jug has a partially enclosed top near the spout and a fancy applied handle. There is a raised decoration around the rim. The top of the jug, the raised rim, handle and base have applied gilt decoration. The obverse and the reverse have a raised spread-winged eagle which is gilded. Below the eagle is a hand-painted rose with leaves and blue flowers. Flanking the eagles are large raised hand-painted American flags with raised hand-painted crossed poles which appear in the front and back of the jug. Above the crossed poles on the front are fancy gilt letters stating: "T.B.D." above, and below "? ?". (MI-695) Condition: The jug is in very good condition with a gentle even craquelure surface. The painted decoration is strong and not faded as is the gilt decoration. There is some minor scattered gilt loss. Dimensions: Height 10 1/4 inches; Width 6 inches; Depth 9 1/4 inches.
