LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. — Nearly 300 lots of Art Nouveau and Art Deco glass and lighting were presented by Rago Arts & Auction Center on October 19; it was the first auction solely dedicated to those categories, which previously had been offered as part of a larger Twentieth Century design auction. House president David Rago said the new more focused format had been “very well received.” A US lamp collector, bidding by phone, paid the sale’s highest price of $151,200 for a circa 1910 Tiffany Studios Peony leaded glass and patinated bronze table lamp from a Philadelphia private collection that was referenced in several volumes, including Robert Koch, Louis C. Tiffany’s Glass, Bronzes, Lamps; Egon Neustadt, The Lamps of Tiffany; and Tiffany Lamps and Metalware: New Edition by Alastair Duncan. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium as reported by the auction house. A forthcoming issue will feature a more extensive sale recap.
