“It sure made a difference and gave the show a whole new look, and a great one,” said Arie L. Kopelman, chairman of the Winter Antiques Show, as he proudly pointed out the newly designed fascia boards and booth names that ran the length and width of the Park Avenue Armory exhibition area. With some suggestions from Arie and his committee, Dan Mecker of Portland, Ore., designed the boards.
The booth names are lit from tracks that run down the center of each aisle, correcting the just about unreadable signs of two years ago, and “all the boards are packed into racks for storage and will last for many years to come,” Catherine Sweeney Singer, executive director said.
So while basic improvements to the show are constantly being made, equal attention is given to the booths prepared by the 75 exhibitors to tempt the large crowds that fill the armory on preview night, Thursday, January 24, right through the last day of the show, Sunday, February 3. On preview night Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg was first onto the floor, followed by an ever-increasing crowd that packed the aisles, taking in all of the treasures there to be admired and purchased while enjoying tables laden with food and bars that never ran dry.
This is the only show in the country that Antiques and The Arts Weekly can cover on opening night, and give its readers and website viewers a look at the event while it is still running. And we suggest that you do not miss it. A second and larger look will appear in a forthcoming issue.
