“Inspired Impressions: Interior Paintings by Jeremiah Goodman” is on view at the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) until December 20. Featuring 38 original paintings and Interior Design magazine covers from iconic interior designer Jeremiah Goodman, who is still vital and energetic at 88, this retrospective of Goodman’s signature room portraits reveal why he is treasured in the interior design community.
Goodman is known for his ability to infuse static rooms with warmth and personality and bring them so vividly to life. Goodman has made some of his favorite interior paintings, many never before seen in public, available for this exhibit. They capture the sitting rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms of the world’s most stylish names, including Carolina Herrera, Edith Head, James Galanos and Diana Vreeland to name a few.
A sampling of the paintings on view include “Sutton Place Living Room,” owner, Bill Blass; “Living Room, Mews House, London,” owner, Sir John Gielgud; “Sitting Room and Library, Beekman Place,” owner, Greta Garbo; and “Living and Dining Room, Paris,” owner, Carlos De Beistegui. The paintings are gouache and mixed-media on illustration board.
In addition, Interior Design magazine has delved into its archives to reprint 25 covers representing Goodman’s 15-year tenure as exclusive cover artist for the publication.
The exhibit includes a 48-page catalog with color plates of the paintings and Interior Design covers. For the first time, London-based Dean Rhys Morgan, Goodman’s exclusive dealer, is offering limited-edition signed giclée prints. Each print is published in an edition of 300, which are personally signed, numbered and titled by Goodman. His work has never been available in reproduction form before.
