This Inuit marine mammal jawbone has various sea animals carved on it and features a polar bear at its peak.

Items that were reported to have been stolen from an antiques dealer’s space at a group shop here sometime between April 26 and 29 may turn up on the fields of Brimfield this week. Antiques shoppers should be on the lookout for an Inuit marine mammal jawbone that has various sea animals carved on it. The jawbone, measuring about 8‱0 inches, also features a polar bear at its peak.

Also stolen were a Nineteenth Century American two-draw, 28-inch mahogany and brass telescope and a mid-Nineteenth Century American octant. The octant is distinctive, with the captain’s name “Wthider” and his home town “Bremerhaven” engraved on an ivory plaque in the middle of the instrument. It measures about 12‱4 inches in length and had the original maker’s label from William DeSilva, a Liverpool Nineteenth Century instrument maker. The thief left the original box and put a lesser octant in it with no owner name or maker’s label and with nonlegible numerical marking on the ivory insert.
