MARLBOROUGH, MASS. — On April 14 a selection from a Beacon Street couple’s collection went up for sale at Skinner Auctions, replete with highly polished wood furniture, Asian decorative arts and a large majolica collection. The luxurious style of this exclusive address was typified through the objects offered, including a pair of leather club chairs that vastly exceeded their $500/700 estimate, seating $4,375. Many such estimates were unexpectedly multiplied in final sale figures, one of the most so being the $17,500 achieved for a less comfortable but striking majolica garden seat against an estimate with the same figure. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium as reported by the auction house; a more extensive report will follow in a future issue.
