Fischbach Showcases the Work of Two Realists
NEW YORK CITY – The Fischbach Gallery will feature “Stream, Sky, Mountain, Trees,” an exhibition of recent paintings by Emma Tapley, March 8 through March 31. This will be Tapley’s second solo exhibition at Fischbach Gallery.
An exhibition of recent paintings and watercolors by Paul Rickert, entitled “Finestkind,” will run concurrently with Tapley’s show.
Tapley builds on the four original elements of earth, air, fire and water, creating landscapes of subtle intensity. Her work portrays these four elements reacting with and transforming one another. “I am moved to put down what I consider the essence of landscape painting: the light, air, atmosphere, forms, relationships, and poetry. All of these elements come together in my water paintings. With the reflection of the sky in the water and the surface depth revealing the earth beneath there is a suggestion of the whole in the small detail.”
Tapley chooses to reveal nature in her own unusual, often challenging way. As Barry Schwabsky described her work, “Her examination and rendering has a way of confounding perceptual and compositional expectations. – There are realms in which pleasure and difficulty conflict, but not here.”
Born in New York in 1967, Tapley attended the School of Visual Art, Pratt Institution, and New York Academy of Art, and continues to live and work in Brooklyn.
Paul Rickert (b. 1947) now resides in Stonington Me, which has become more than a just a place to live, it is an inspiration. Rickert captures the essence of Maine life and light in his new body of work. His masterful technique and powerful complex compositions create poetic celebrations of this glorious place. Rickert’s study of relationship – architecture to landscape, man to nature – is both compelling and moving. His paintings are the spirit of place.
