Federal Andirons

Jeffrey Tillou Antiques Litchfield, CT 860-567-9693 jeffrey@tillouantiques.com www.tillouantiques.com Rare pair of Federal andirons with matching tools, signed “John Molineux, Boston,” circa 1800-15, brass and steel with iron dogs. They measure 24½ inches high, 13½ inches wide and 23 inches deep. This exceptional pair of left and right andirons would have adorned the most formal homes of the Federal period. The steeple-top form is repeated on the log stops and supported by spur feet. The fireplace tools, comprised of shovel and tongs, are identical to the form of the ball and steeple-top turning of the andirons.
