With blue and red painted door panels, as well as side panels, this cupboard, either American or Canadian, sold for $1,652.

“We received a house call and had to look at the contents of the house by flashlight, as there was no power at the time,” Ryan Brechlin of Nest Egg Auctions said. He added, “I thought we had struck it rich, but daylight proved us wrong on a number of the pieces. However, we were still able to put together a nice selection of Americana and country pieces, and we had a strong preview during the days leading up to the sale, with a good number of dealers attending.” The auction was conducted November 19.

Bidders online, on the phone and in the room competed for a large English settle that finally brought $826, and a very nice English bible box with heavy carving on the lid and sides went for $708.

A period Queen Anne cherry drop leaf table, with replaced feet, sold for $1,298; a Meriden, Conn., family silver plated shooting trophy went for $1,062, and a hand painted glass cigar humidor with an American Indian chief decoration, unmarked but believed to be C.F. Monroe, brought $590.

All priced noted include the buyer’s premium of 15 percent if paid by check or cash, 18 percent if by credit card.
