For more than a year, Nye & Company has posted its monthly auctions to iGavelauctions.com, an online fine art and antiques auction site. The firm’s September auction took place September 13′7, featuring the estate of a New Jersey industrialist, property from the estate of Jack Dempsey and a group of fine art from Newark artists John Grabach and Henry Gasser.
The auction was nearly 85 percent sold, and the average lot value soared to nearly $750. As is often the case, much of the bidding took place in the last 48 hours, but inquiries and interest were evident throughout the two-week-long offering.
Jewelry represented the top lots of the auction. A diamond bracelet with a gross weight above 47 carats realized $78,000, while an 8.25-carat pear-shaped diamond ring sold for almost $65,000. Other highlights included gold cigarette cases, which sold for more than $16,000.
The Dempsey furniture was moderately popular, netting a gross in the $4,000 range, while the cumulative group of artwork from a Poconos Mountain estate realized almost $39,000.
An additional highlight was a carved ivory figure of St Peter, which sold for $14,400.
Prices reported include the 20 percent buyer’s premium.
The firm’s next auction will go live on www.igavelauctions.com on October 24 and remain up for bidding and viewing until November 7. There will be an offering from local estates, including silver and carved ivories from a New York City residence.
