VINELAND, N.J. — Pulling into the lead at Bertoia Auction’s October 11 sale of the Gentleman’s Collection of Tony Annese was a Märklin Third Avenue electric O-gauge trolley set described in the catalog as “extraordinarily rare,” which sold at $73,800. Estimated at $25/45,000, it saw so much presale interest that Michael Bertoia, who was on the podium, opened bidding at $25,000. With competition in the room, online and on the phones, it ultimately went to an international buyer bidding in the room. Watch for a longer sale review in a future issue.
