The Photography of Alfred Stieglitz:
DOYLESTOWN, PA. – A selection of images by one of the most important photographers and figures in American art is in the Twentieth Century – Alfred Stieglitz – will be displayed worldwide for the first time via a new exhibition titled “The Photography of Alfred Stieglitz: .”
The exhibition, which began at George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and then traveled to Europe, will be welcomed back to America by James A. Michener Art Museum, and will be on view beginning February 24.
one of America’s greatest artists. The exhibition includes a broad range of images from the 1890s to 1935, including early European work, images of Lake George and New York City, portraits, and facsimiles of early autochromes and black-and-white lantern slides, as well as cameras used by Stieglitz.
As Stieglitz’s wife and collaborator, Georgia O’Keeffe’s role in his artwork cannot be understated. She was the subject of many of his most important photographs and came to posses many of his most prized works of art.
A lecture series will be given on three consecutive Tuesday afternoons: April 3, 10 and 17, 1-2 pm and full day symposium titled “Stieglitz and His Influence: A Continuing Tradition” is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 9:30 am to 4 pm. For information, 215/340-9800.
