John Adams Autograph Letter Twice-Signed to Elbridge Gerry. April 17, 1813. A letter regarding an important law that Gerry had drafted in 1775 regarding the fitting of armed vessels; he criticizes its lack of mention in Mercy Otis Warren’s History of the Rise, Progress, and Termination of the American Revolution. He critiques her lack of research and personal prejudices, culminating with the oft-quoted statement that “History is not the Province of the Ladies”.

The Declaration of Independence. SALEM, Massachussetts-Bay: Printed by E. Russell, by Order of Authority. 15.25” x 19.5”. Inscribed to Reverend Levi Frisbee of Ipswich on the verso. A scarce July 1776 printing of the edition authorized by the colony. A 7” x 5” area at lower left has been expertly replaced in facsimile. Estimate: $200,000 and up

November 15, 1862. To Faulkner instructing him on how to proceed in procuring his appointment and urging him to be expedient in the matter as he is anxious to fill his staff positions. [Second Barbary War]. Log Book of the USS Spark. Approximately 150 bound pages, various locations in port and at sea, December 14, 1814 through September 15, 1815. Recording the daily activities of the United States Brig Spark, a 12-gun vessel that was involved in the Second Barbary War. Commanded by Lieutenant Thomas Gamble (1783-1818).
