John Adams Autograph Letter Twice-Signed to Elbridge Gerry. April 17, 1813. A letter regarding an important law that Gerry had drafted in 1775 regarding the fitting of armed vessels; he criticizes its lack of mention in Mercy Otis Warren’s History of the Rise, Progress, and Termination of the American Revolution. He critiques her lack of research and personal prejudices, culminating with the oft-quoted statement that “History is not the Province of the Ladies”.

Recording the daily activities of the United States Brig Spark, a 12-gun vessel that was involved in the Second Barbary War. Commanded by Lieutenant Thomas Gamble (1783-1818).
