In the Contemporary marketplace a Francis Bacon triptych, “Three Studies for Portrait of George Dyer,” went for an astounding $45,400,274. Sotheby’s J.M.W. Turner set a world auction record for the artist at $47.4 million. Other seven digit masterpieces were displayed at fairs in Newport, R.I. and New York City. Other highlights from 2014 follow.
