BOSTON, MASS. — A Kiowa woman’s beaded hide dress, circa 1870s, was a standout in Skinner’s auction of American Indian & Ethnographic Art December 1 when it attained $67,650, including the 23 percent buyer’s premium. The dress had never been publicly offered for sale and came from the collection of Philadelphia artist Robert Riggs.
The sale featured a fine offering of sculptural items, led by a Prairie carved and incised elk horn quirt , third quarter Nineteenth Century, that sold above high estimate for $15,990.
