PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The top lot at Gustave J.S. White Auctioneers’ live auction May 27 was an important Gilded Age paneled salon from a New York mansion that attained $30,000, including buyer’s premium, and was won by a local bidder. The Louis XV-style salon was attributed to Allard & Sons, Paris, and included large wall bays with inset fabric panels, topped with allegorical trophies on music and the performing arts, along with overmantel trumeau panels, corner panels and more. A complete report on the auction will appear in an upcoming issue.
