CHEVY CHASE, MD. — On day two of Sloans & Kenyon’s March 10 and 11 catalog auction, an oil on canvas of flowers in a vase, “Iris Blues,” by Bernard Buffet (1928 – 1999), exceeded its $60,000 high estimate, selling for $104,562. With provenance from the Wally Findlay galleries in New York City and the original sales receipt, the signed and dated ’64 painting was followed closely by another flower painting by the same artist, “Climbing Flowers,” which sold for $86,637. Both prices include the buyer’s premium. A full report will appear in a future edition. For further information, www.sloandsandkenyon.com or 301-634-2330.
