STAMFORD, CONN. — ACES Gallery conducted its Fall Estates Auction on October 18, featuring 452 lots in such categories as fine and decorative arts, silver, timepieces, jewelry and more, and saw exceptional results across the board. The leading lot was an ovoid jar featuring symbolic cranes and tortoises in four blue medallions around the body. This vessel, made during the Joseon dynasty, Eighteenth Century, had a ruyi-style cloud band around the neck and measured 13½ inches tall by 13½ inches wide. With its animals symbolizing longevity and good fortune in Korean sipjangsaeng iconography, the jar rose to $344,400, including buyer’s premium, against an estimate of $5/10,000. Further highlights from the auction will appear in a future issue.
