Kittinger, Williamsburg Piecrust Tilt-Top Table- $4975
This exceedingly rare tilt-top table is the finest reproduction piecrust table ever made for the Williamsburg Reproduction Collection. The original antique, dating to 1760, was owned by the family of Chief Justice John Marshall and is now on display in the Masterworks Gallery in Colonial Williamsburg. As in the original, this table's meticulously carved and crafted piecrust top is made from a one piece, 1 1/2 inch thick plank of solid Brazilian mahogany. Even more remarkable is the execution of the superb pedestal base with its bird cage mechanism that allows for the highly functional turning and tilting of the table. The turned shaft and tripod legs, hand-shaped from single pieces of mahogany, terminate in robust ball and talon feet which are dovetailed into the center post, adding to the overall structural integrity. No detail in the reproduction of this table was overlooked making it the benchmark for which all other piecrust tables are judged and making this table an Icon for the collector.
