Winterthur Philadelphia Footstool- $2975
The original, from which this footstool was faithfully reproduced, was used in the Philadelphia house in which Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence. Now part of the Winterthur Collection, the original stool, circa 1755-1765, is displayed in the Port Royal Parlor. As in the original, this foolstool is of mortise and tenon construction. It features the classic Rococo oval shape with wonderfully draping carved acanthus knees and cabriole legs resting on ball and claw feet. Many experts have considered this footstool to be the supreme example of an American footstool.
