French Art Nouveau Patinated Bronze Vase by Charles Korschann- $22,500
A French Art Nouveau patinated bronze vase by Charles Korschann. The front of the vase displays a bare breasted woman, wearing a scant, diaphanous veil that leaves suggestion of the feminine form. The figure is surrounded by poppies in bloom and holding a leafy stalk with poppy buds in her hand. Her closed eyelids reference the internal world of dreams and hallucinations. The poppy is symbolic of the Fleurs du Mal, and the trend for opium and drug experimentation that was so popular in 1900. Titled “Reveries of a Poppy”. Pictured in: Dynamic Beauty: Sculpture of Art Nouveau Paris, by Macklowe Gallery, The Studley Press, 2011, p. 163. Circa 1900. Signed, ''CH. Korschann Paris, Louchet foundry''. Dimensions: 18'' high x 12'' wide x 6'' deep.
