Carved & painted portrait of Philip Madison Crapo (1844-1903), by Gottlieb Henry Bresser, blacksmith (1864-1954) and signed by him on the attached tablet, along with a note on the 3-dimensional jack knife and blade: “This done the work.” Philip Crapo was a Civil War veteran, businessman and public benefactor of Burlington, Iowa. 30 ¼ by 15 ½ inches, about 1890-1900. Note the spiffy bow tie and diamond stick pin.
