THOMASTON, MAINE — Seven phone bidders competed for a Greek 22K or 24K gold and emerald ring dating approximately from the First Century BC at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries May 21–22. From the estate of Anne Bigelow Stern, the ring had been pictured in books and near duplicates are in the Antikensammlung Museum in Munich and the Rhode Island School of Design. It brought $152,200. A necklace made of 12 gold Byzantine coins from the same collection also did well.

The sale was strong throughout, with Oriental bronzes doing well, as did Herend porcelain, Georg Jensen silver, ancient artifacts, rare maps, nautical items, Hermes bags, a 1992 Bentley, a 36-foot Carver cabin cruiser, fine jewelry and much more.
