COGAN STATION, PENN. — Roan Auctioneers & Appraisers conducted its Annual Memorial Day Weekend Auction on May 26 and 27. Currently in their 78th year, this year’s sale featured the collection of Paul Ricker, Salon, Penn., a long-time friend and customer of the Roan family. Ricker was a well-known collector and dealer of interesting smalls and good antiques for more than 60 years. The auction was offered live, in-house and online, attracting attention and bidding worldwide.
A few lots of interest included an antique softwood double-blind-door chimney cupboard in yellow tiger grain, paint-decorated by the late, well-known local artist, Tom Pepper of Lewisburg, Penn. This item was purchased by a local resident for $3,080 and was the auction’s highest-selling lot. One of a few antique signs in the auction, a double-sided porcelain on steel Atlantic gas station sign drew a final bid of $2,090 to a floor bidder, while an antique tin lithograph four-part Pathfinder Cigar sign sold to an absentee bidder for $990. A daguerreotype of a Confederate soldier, one of several antique photo lots, realized $330 in-house, while a group of ten tin types of Union soldiers realized $1,200 online.
There were lots to suit all budgets in the sale. An antique majolica Sunflower syrup jug with a pewter hinged lid landed at $715 to a floor bidder, while an antique child’s twig-Adirondack type arm rocker with root-knuckle arm posts and twig spindle fan-back went home for $275.
Prices quoted with buyer’s premium as reported by the auction house. Roan will host additional upcoming auctions of the Ricker estate, and its next sales, a Firearms Auction on June 17, and Coin Auction on June 24. For information, contact Ron Roan at 570-220-0062 or www.roaninc.com.
