NEW YORK CITY — A one-of-a-kind Mickey Mantle autograph display signed with a “These Pens Suck” inscription sold for $247,144, a 1967 Topps Baseball unopened First Series 48-count Cello box fetched $88,711 and Shaquille O’Neal’s 1993 NBA All-Star Game Eastern Conference game-worn, photo-matched uniform (Resolution) from his rookie season netted $90,541 in the Lelands 2024 Fall Classic Auction, which ended October 19.
The display of 99 Mickey Mantle signatures — and one “These Pens Suck” inscription — appears on an autograph sheet that the Yankees legend gifted to a friend who owned a statue company that produced pro sports-licensed products in the 1980s-90s. Mantle had signed his name on the cardstock 46 times, but on the 47th segment, he improvised, writing “These Pens Suck” instead of his signature. Mantle then signed his name 53 more times.
The 1967 Topps Baseball First Series unopened Cello box was authenticated and wrapped by Baseball Card Exchange (BBCE). The box comes with BBCE wrap, BBCE bottom label and BBCE sticker #X1639.
Shaquille O’Neal’s 1993 NBA All-Star Game Eastern Conference game-worn uniform from his rookie season with the Magic includes his shorts and jersey, both of which were conclusively photo-matched. O’Neal had one of the best rookie years in NBA history, averaging 23.4 points, 13.9 rebounds and 3.5 blocks during that 1992-93 season.
Among other auction highlights were Jimmie Foxx’s 1932 American League Most Valuable Player Award ($97,804), a 1928 R315 Babe Ruth SGC MINT 9 ($51,598) and Nolan Ryan’s Angels incredible, unique one-game style game-worn signed jersey from April 13, 1978 ($30,168).
The auction also featured a Madison Bumgarner 2014 San Francisco Giants World Series Game 7 signed, game-worn, photo-matched (Resolution LOA) jersey ($68,543), and a Hank Aaron 1963-67 Atlanta Braves signed game-used bat possibly used for home run #506 ($30,949).
Additional auction highlights included a Michael Jordan 1984 NBA Bulls debut box office ticket stub PSA EX-MT6 ($80,044), a Jerome Bettis Steelers season-long game-worn jersey photo-matched to nine games ($24,604) and a Fender guitar signed by the members of The Rolling Stones ($27,760).
