Articles consigned are from Brown University, Nightingale Brown House (the entire 4th floor), the Estate of Peter Willard Armitage, and from Estates in Kingston, Padanaram and Newport. Paintings, jewelry, cast iron garden furniture, textiles, silver.
INSPECTION: Tues. May 26, from 1 to 4 pm & one hour before the sale on Wednesday
SESSION I: Highlights include a huge assortment of FABRIC, most of it in the original boxes. Other features include Oriental tapestries, Pedestals, ship models.
Autographs, tall case clock dial reading “JB Wilbour, Newport”. Painters represented: Elias Bancroft, Hilda Belcher (3), H.M. Brett, Sydney R. Burleigh, W. F. Daboll, Paule Loring, Clara Maxfield, James A. Mitchell,
Robert Paterson, Luke Randall, Thomas Willis.
SESSION II: Cast Iron Garden Furniture (exceedingly heavy).
SESSION III: An important Gilded Age paneled Louis XV style salon; attributed to Allard & Sons, Paris (French, ca. 1890 incorporating earlier ca. 1770 carved trophy panels). Comprising large wall bays with inset fabric panels and wall bays topped with period allegorical trophies on music and the performing arts.
Together with over-mantel trumeau panel (inset mirror removed); beveled corner panels, slender parclose panels, doors with their original gilt bronze Bricard hardware and oil on canvas floral painted overdoors. From a New York mansion and the ex-collection of decorator and set designer Joseph B. Platt.
