MOUNT CRAWFORD, VA. — Over the course of three days, June 15-17, Jeffery S. Evans & Associates sold more than 1,400 lots of glassware and premier Americana, with all glass lots trading careful hands and an overall sell-through rate of more than 99 percent. Leading the weekend at $96,000, including premium, was a rare Roanoke River Basin Chippendale carved walnut corner cupboard that was associated with the “WH” cabinet shop in Northeastern North Caroline during the late Eighteenth Century. With an early history in the Stephenson family of Southampton Co., Va., the imposing case piece had been acquired in an online auction earlier in 2023 for just $160. It sold to a private collector, bidding absentee online, underbid by a Virginia institution. Flags, folk art and Southern decorative arts were also standout categories, all to be discussed in more length in an upcoming issue.
