PITTSBURGH, PENN. — Old Toy Soldier Auctions’ May 20 sale featured an even 600 lots of Britain’s toy soldiers and related accessories, all from the collection of Chicago collector, Alan Bramson. Assembled beginning in the early 1980s, and working with toy soldier dealer Gus Hansen, Bramson’s collection featured many rare sets, among which was a pre-World War II 21-piece Royal Marine light infantry band, made between 1938 and 1941, which was cataloged as a “beautiful example,” in “pristine condition” and “considered to be the ultimate Britain’s band.” Expectations for the band were high — it carried the highest estimate of any lot at $8/12,000 — and expectations were met when it sold for $8,400 to a collector in Canada. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium; a more extensive sale review will appear in an upcoming issue.
