PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Rising well past its original face value, a collection of 57 Confederate notes achieved the top result in Bray & Company’s April 25 auction of The Collector’s Cabinet. The sale featured 228 lots of rare books, maps, manuscripts, prints, paintings, historic photographs and more from estates across New England. The Civil War-era currency exceeded its $200/300 estimate to achieve $7,500, including buyer’s premium. An upcoming issue will feature further coverage of the auction as a whole.
