PITTSFIELD, MASS. — A monumental and important Tiffany Glass & Decorating Company chandelier, which was commissioned by and hung at First Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, N.Y., attained $500,000, including buyer’s premium, in Fontaine’s Auction Gallery’s February 7 Fine & Decorative Arts auction. The circa 1892 fixture was the top lot in the sale, which brought in $4.5 million overall. One of the earliest surviving examples of how Tiffany used leaded glass panels to enclose a light source, the Moorish chandelier went to a private collector in Virginia. A complete report on the auction will appear in an upcoming issue.
