Execution Broadside. Execution of Stephen Merrill Clark, which took place on Winter Island, Salem, on Thursday, May 10, 1821. For the Crime of Arson. 17” x 11”. Clark was only 16 years old when he hung for this fire in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Clark was accused by a prostitute named Hannah Downes. The jury found him guilty and recommended prison, but he was hung instead. A scarce New England crime broadside.
