NEW YORK CITY — Doyle Auctions conducted a diverse sale including Old Master & Nineteenth Century Paintings, Drawings & Prints, followed by English & Continental Silver, on January 28, and English & Continental Furniture & Decorative Arts on January 29. Earning top-lot status across all three sessions at $44,800, including buyer’s premium, was a sterling silver trophy presented by King George VI as The King’s Cup at the Royal Yacht Squadron Regatta of 1938 ($5/7,000). The cup, made by Heming & Company, prominent London silversmiths established in 1745, commemorated the winner of the Royal Yacht Squadron Regatta (now known as Cowes Week), one of the most prestigious fixtures in British yachting before the Second World War. This 1938 King’s Cup was won by Trivia, owned and steered by Vernon W. MacAndrew. Additional results from all three sessions will be featured in a future issue.
