EAST DENNIS, MASS. — In Eldred’s British + Continental Art auction January 8, a Continental School Old Master ink drawing of a leg sold to an online bidder for $57,600, including buyer’s premium, substantially outpacing its $200/400 estimate. The mat bore what was believed to be the 1892 family coat of arms for Alexander Ziloti, a Russian musician. A similar sketch in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago is attributed to a follower of Michelangelo. This lot was consigned through Eldred’s office in Mystic, Conn., and sold to an overseas buyer. All competition was online. A full review of the sale will be in a later issue.
