BOONTON, N.J. — Spanning three days, Millea Bros’ June 17-19 Select auction comprised around 975 lots in just about every collecting category, including art and design across centuries and movements, silver, fossils, books, antiques, photography and furniture. Rising to the top of the results list on the final day was a marble bust of Augustus Caesar that bested its $1/1,500 estimate to achieve $10,880, including buyer’s premium. The Nineteenth Century Italian bust was formed from white statuary marble, after the original antiquity in the Vatican. With provenance to the Newark (N.J.) Museum of Art and Dr J. Ackerman Coles, the 27-inch-tall Augustus had some staining, scuffs and discoloration, but was in overall good condition.
