Lot 59: Tall Clock, American (probably Connecticut), c. 1800, cherry case, simple inlay on the door and base, fluting to columns and hood, quarter columns to trunk with brass capitals and bases, hood with fretwork and three finial plinths topped with three brass finials, center plinth and eagle finial are 20th C. reproductions, fretwork on the case is not original but appropriate, clock has a replaced bottom board, base molding and ogee feet are older replacements, brass escutcheons on the trunk and hood doors are replacements, 8-day brass American-made movement likely original and made by an apprentice of Thomas Harland of Norwich or by an apprentice of one of Harland's trainees, dial is English-made by the firm of Osborne, Birmingham, England, "Osborne" is cast into the iron false plate behind the dial, some lifting of paint on the dial and scattered loss, bird decoration in arch and flowers to spandrels, repainted calendar disc, delicate hands are original and of an interesting and unique design not normally seen (possibly key to identifying the maker), two cast iron weights not of the period, wear consistent with age and use including minor damages and/ or repairs, should be serviced before attempting to run, 87" h.
