18th Century Serpentine Chest- $1,500-3,000
American Chippendale serpentine-front chest, Massachusetts, 1760-1790, mahogany and white pine, shaped top over four long drawers, hand tool marks evident mostly to base, side carry handles appear early, cock beading incised on drawer fronts, top drawer with original dividers, provenance notation on paper label in top drawer reads "Bureau from Thomas & Rebecca Armory/ Thomas born Boston 1682/ ____ of my father, William Appleton Armory", indistinct chalk inscription to underside of top drawer, glue blocks to drawers and bottom appear original, base appears to be original with some pieces reglued, some restorations, including: replaced brasses (close to original holes), built up drawers, runners have been flipped and reused instead of replaced; expected wear consistent with age and use, including: sun faded early finish, both carry handles cracked and bent, patches to lower right of second and third drawers down, etc., sold as found, 34 1/2" h. x 40 1/2" w. x 22" d.
