William McDougal Hart (New York / Scotland, 1823-1894), "Rural Scene near Hamilton, Lanarkshire, 10 Miles from Glasgow", late 19th C., oil on board, depicting a stream, with figures walking by, signed lower right, ornately framed, wear consistent with age, including scattered inpainting, minor craquelure, etc., ss: 18 1/2" h. x 13" w. [Provenance: Pencil note on reverse indicates artist sold the work directly to its first owner, W.G. Leonard in March 1894, and that it was painted in Scotland. Later sold by an old Newport RI family to the Roger King Gallery and to the consigner in 2003]
