Lot 141: SILVER: Paul Storr (English, 1771 - 1844) Magnificent George III sterling tureen, 1809, ringed dome lid with figural ornament/ finial of recumbent cow with maiden, bulbous body of tureen with flanking reeded handles with acanthus leaf grips mounted to four lion head masques, decorated throughout with gadroon and dentil decoration, chased coat of arms to obverse with rearing lion at top (also to lid), hallmarked on foot with lion passant, Leopard's head crowned, "o" mark (London date letter for 1809), George III mark, and "P.S" in shaped shield (maker's mark for Paul Storr, entered 1793), additionally hallmarked to lid rim with "P.S" mark for Paul Storr, sterling lion passant mark, and date mark, wear consistent with age and use including dent to interior of lid rim (does not show unless lid is removed), slightly bent rim, small scratches to finish, etc., possible evidence of previous finial, overall size: 12 ¼" h. x 16 ¾" w.
