Lot 148: SILVER: Matthew Boulton (English, 1728 - 1809) Important George IV sterling epergne with cut crystal Waterford bowl, 1825, acanthus leaf, scroll, fruit and floral motifs throughout, cut crystal bowl rests on reticulated crown supported by three scroll arms, curling free form acanthus leaves stem from crest of standard, scrolled arms and leaves surround central finial topped with bouquet of flowers, tetrahedron form base with three panels featuring applied flowering acanthus scrollwork and bordered by raised bellflower and acanthus leaf designs, raised on three ornate hairy paw feet, full set of five hallmarks to exterior rim of crown and central finial include lion passant, anchor, "B" mark (Birmingham date letter for 1825), George III mark, and "M B" (maker's mark for Matthew Boulton, entered 1797), two additional sets of three hallmarks (maker, lion passant, George III) to base and base cover, wear consistent with age and use including very small imperfections, all three free-form acanthus leaves with restoration or repair to apex, measurement of stand only: 13" h. x 9 ½" diam. (arm to arm), heavy petal cut crystal bowl with scalloped or fan cut edge, tapered centered, unmarked, wear consistent with age and use including two 3/8" chips to teeth and small scattered nicks, etc., 4 3/8" h. x 11 ½" diam.
