Ruth Henshaw Bascom (Mass., 1772-1848), mixed media/pastel, side profile portrait of young woman with lace collar over black dress, against brown background, no signature viewed, early label on back of frame mirrors inscription to drawing verso documented in slides prior to framing, is written "Maria Denny Lincoln Bascom / Sketched at Leicester Aug. 1845 / by Mrs. Bascom" then in pencil is writen "mother of Alice Davis Armsby, wife of Amos Armsby" and in ink a second color is written "She was 27 years old, Born May 14, 1817", Skinner past sale sticker for October 27, 1990 sale 1350 lot 128, accompanied by Lois S. Avigad letter regarding this portrait, asking Skinner sale purchaser to contact her so she may have information for the catalog raisonne, also included is 1976 Worcester Museum Bulletin pamphlet focusing on Bascom's work, wear consistent with age, including some damages to frame, haze to glass, etc., ss: 18" h. x 13 1/4" w.
